The Clubbing Years

The lovely Sian over at geek is new chic blogged yesterday about the clubbing years and music in the early 90s.  Well, me being me, I had to put my tuppence worth in and whilst Sian has a GOOD selection, I think she has missed some corkers!   I was in my late teens in the late eighties/early 90s and spent many a night driving around looking for raves.  Sometimes we found them, sometimes we didn't but we had a good time trying to get there and an even better time once we did.

The Spiral Tribe ones were always good and I also loved the Sunrise events.  I also did many a club night in London at Rage (underneath the Arches at Kings Cross on a Thursday) and Orange on the Holloway Road (small gig) as well as some of the bigger, commercial raves held in warehouses across the South East.

Here are some of my favourite tunes from that time:

Shades of Rhythm - Sounds of Eden

Kariya - Let me love you for tonight

Future Sound of London - Papua New Guinea

The Prodigy - Your Love

Blame - Music Takes You

Rhytmn is Rhythm - Strings of Life

Fantazia - 15th May 1992 - first 30 seconds...you may *just* recognise someone in a SUIT!!!

Peace and Love

I do remember some of these, particularly the first one but the rest I am a bit young for (not much mind!). I love the last video, your dancing is not as shameful as some of them...especially the guy in the K top! I love looking at the fashion (or lack of) and it's also spot who is on drugs! x

  5. Oops - pressed "reply" too soon. What fantastic tracks.
Rave bridged the gap between pop and piano classics for me. Just hearing piano in the middle of a track gets me moving even now!!

  7. You're too cool for me. I missed out on the raving generation - although coming from Bristol I was brought up on the sounds of drum and bass and spent many a late night / early morning dancing to the likes of Roni Size in warehouse clubs. That's about as cool as I get. It's all downhill from there.

  13. well my cool days are long gone. At theVIP after party at the polo at the weekend, I slinked off the dancefloor after realising that "throwing some shapes" to the live set meant I had become that "old embarrassing person".

    They are all under 25!
