Horrid Henry Movie - A review

Ner, Ner, Ner, Ner, Ner Ner......................................

Yep, you guessed it, we were lucky enough to see the new Horrid Henry movie before it was released and for a mere nano second I did hesitate.  You see, Horrid Henry and I have a love/hate relationship.  I can't abide children (or adults for that matter) who say "SHUUUUUT UP" in an whiney overly obnoxious way and this is something that our "hero" says on a fairly frequent basis.  Along with other such gems as "smelly nappy baby face" and screeching "NOOOOOOOOOOO" at the top of his voice. Yes, I *get* that there are worse things a kid could say, but hey, get over it, it's my bug bear.

For those of you who are not familiar with Horrid Henry and who are a child of the 80s, then think back to "marmalade atkins" and you'll find that Henry is the male equivalent for the next generation.  Yes, they would get on rather well....

Actually, given the fact that I could have passed for Marmalade (I even kept chewing gum behind my ear in homage to her) and that Beansey passes for Henry the majority of the time, they could in fact, be mother and son...hmmmm now there is a thought..

Sorry, I digress.....

So although I hesitated, I knew that the boys would never forgive me had they found out that I had been asked to see the film and turned it down.  So, a few Sundays ago, of we tootled to the Empire on Haymarket for what I thought was going to be 2 hours of bleeding ears.

I am not going to spoil the plot for you, but here is the trailer for a little taster of what to expect:

The plot was a bit weak in places, and the whole "Dick and Dom" thing was a bit long winded, but overall it was a great film that of course my boys adored.  They can't wait for it to come out on the 29th July as they want to see it again.   I would say go with an open mind, look out for some great cameos (Noel Fielding was awesome) Horrid Henry the Movie should definitely be on your list of things to do over the summer holidays, and you never know, you may come away with a smile on your face.  I certainly did!
