An ipad for Steph

This is a post that I am dedicating to the wonderful, beautiful, inspiring Stephy who tweets at @isaac_elijahmum.  I have never met Steph, I didn't even know her until a few months ago, but the wonderful world of twitter threw us together and we have been tweeting for a while now.

For those of you that do not know Steph, she has cancer.  Three weeks ago she was fighting for her life in intensive care and her twitter feed was updated by her friends and family who knew that many, many people had been touched by Steph and were worrying about her.   I have been humbled by Steph's take on life, her fight against the dreaded cancer and her sense of humour as she battles on.  She is so considerate of other people and I want to do something for her to help ease the boredom/stress/pain/ she has to go through.

She has an old clunky laptop that she takes everywhere, she has said to me and others that reading blogs and tweeting keeps her going, the messages of support spur her on.  I have tried using a laptop in bed, it's a nightmare and it got me thinking that if every single one of Steph's tweeters gave just a 50p donation, we could very quickly raise enough to get her an ipad which would make her life so much easier.

Steph has a gorgeous little boy that we know as Buzz Lightyear.  He is a typical cheeky three year old who Stephy loves very much.  He tries to make her hair regrow by using his special Ben 10 powers, he doesn't understand why her hair won't grow back overnight.  She treasures each moment she has with him and you can just tell from her tweets that her heart is breaking everyday she is away from him in hospital.  If we raise enough to get her an ipad, she can Skype with her gorgeous little boy.

Step is at home for Easter and looking forward to it, she is however back at the hospital on the 3rd of May for 3 weeks of radiotherapy.  I would dearly love to have raised the funds and have her ipad delivered to her by then.

I have no idea how to collect the money - I am aiming for £500 which will enable us to get Steph her ipad.  I am going to start the pledging below, if you want to help, then please leave a comment with the amount you pledge.  I am sure that someone will come along and tell me how to collect the money online!

Thank you for reading this, I have to also say that Steph knows about this as I couldn't not tell her.  She was worried that people would think she was a "charity case".  Stephy, you are far, far, from that and we all wish you the very best in your fight against cancer.

Peace and Love

S.A.M xx

  3. Do you have a paypal account?

  4. Paypal will work you have to MAKE SURE everyone puts gift.

Or alternatively you could set up a no fee bank account just for the purpose and get people to make direct deposits, that works well too.

I pledge £5 (not working at the moment!)

  14. I pledge £10. I normally would not do this but I am bowled over by the way she fought out of intensive care and she is a genuinely nice person. In addition, if you don't get enough pledges within a couple of weeks of setting it up I will make up the difference to make sure she gets one. I don't think there will be any problems raising the money though

  16. I tried to comment, but it disappeared. A web saver account will mean that the money doesn't get eaten into by paypal fees. Just as fast to set up as paypal if you have online banking. Yes, i will pledge.

  28. What a lovely idea. I do not know Steph as am still new to this, but what an inspiration and I will donate. When my Husband ran the New York marathon a few years back, he set up a page where people could visit and sponsor him. They then collected all the money, I guess it could be the same type of thing. This page could also be posted to facebook or emailed. I will ask him tonight when he gets home. Looks like lots of people want to help. You will have the money in no time :-)

  30. I'll stick a few quid in, let me know once you've got the method of donation sorted. Well done Soph, think this is brilliant so Stephy can be more comfortable while connecting with the world and her little Buzz - laptops are indeed clunky!

  32. How wonderful, I don't know this lady but can't possibly imagine what it must be like to have children and be suffering from cancer. I pledge £5 If you are having problems with the account I am more than happy for you to use my business paypal account. I presume as long as people send it as a gift there will be no charges and then I can transfer the money to a bank account for you ? Will look into it if you want me too. Just let me know xx

  34. great idea for a very deserving person, who has touched many people's lives. I pledge a tenner, but happy to donate more later if you're short. I know people who have used Just Giving websites to raise money for charity. Don't know if that has to be for an official charity or if you can use it in this sort of situation. It's quite good as everyone can see what the current total is. Might be worth looking at. Will check back for how to pay.

  35. Have looked at just giving but it seems to be if you are a charity - eg cancer research. Paypal people talk about "gifting"

I am going to research properly tonight

Thank you everyone so far, we are a 1/3 of the way there in 1 day - AMAZING!

  39. Thank you everyone! Have emailed just Giving as it seems (to me!) that you can only set up a page if you nominate to fundraise for a charity....

Waiting for them to get back to me.

@isaac_elijahmum a.k.a Stephy is MADE UP! GO say Hi to her on twitter xx
